What to prepare before going outdoors

Choose the right equipment:

1. Sleeping bag. Determine the weight of the sleeping bag based on the climate. Because the sleeping bag is used in the tent and you sleep in your clothes, choose those specifications with a comfortable temperature close to the night temperature.

2. Tent. Focus on quick setup, windproof and rainproof.

Backpack. Generally speaking, calculated based on time, the farther the journey and the longer the time, the larger the volume of the backpack should be. A professional entry-level backpacker's backpack should be at least 65-70 liters.

3. Moisture-proof mat. If the route is close to mountains and lakes, a moisture-proof mat is necessary.

4. Water bottle: There is no need to bring a large-capacity water bottle. The drinking pattern and amount should be better arranged according to actual needs. Don't prepare too much water, and you can replenish when passing through towns.

Problems faced during hiking

Besides safety, backpackers generally face four main problems. First is rest. Ensure there is enough rest time. Don't consume excessive physical strength and energy every day. Second is eating. For food and water, don't consume too much water or dry food. Consider physical needs scientifically. Third is excretion and personal hygiene. Find a suitable place for excretion and grooming. This is a headache for backpackers. Personal experience shows that it's better to arrange it regularly at noon every day. When passing through towns at noon, find a suitable place. If camping, it's better to stay away from water sources. If you can find simple open-air toilets built by farmers in the mountains, that's even better. Fourth is environmental protection and garbage disposal. If not staying overnight in towns, organic garbage, such as tissues and food residues, can be buried on the spot. Insoluble garbage must be packed and taken away.

Plan the daily walking route and the overall route map

Every morning, set the route to be completed that day. The route should try to pass through nearby towns to purchase dry food and breakfast for the next day.

In the evening, prepare in advance for camping or staying in a hotel. If the climate allows camping, decide on the rest place before it gets dark. Inspect the surrounding environment. After completing the assessment of the rainstorm and mountain flood outbreak coefficient, set up the tent. Put the food in sealed plastic bags to avoid attracting insects or other animals due to the smell. It's better to sleep in your clothes and don't take off your shoes.

Four tips with deep experience:

1. Before departure, practice how to set up the tent within 10 minutes in the case of insufficient light.

2. Even if the coat has a waterproof function, it's better to wear a raincoat when setting up the tent in rainy days.

3. The prepared clothes must be packed in dry bags, including the mobile phone.

4. Prepare more dry food. Food is not easy to obtain. Even in the suburbs, snack shops may not be open on rainy days.

Useful equipment for overnight backpackers: Nylon raincoat. Even if it's not raining, the grass in the morning is very damp. When I pack up the tent, I can put all the equipment on or inside the raincoat.
